Flawed but a fun classic film
Well done film with some unique shots for the time. My main gripes with it is that It refrains from setting up the motivations of the Nazis too much, does not demonstrate the ruthlessness of the Nazis explicitly, and implies a little too much. I don't recall them ever saying Nazi and FBI in the whole movie, nor is a firearm ever shown. There are also no Swastikas or Nazi salutes. The Nazis are never shown to be explicitly committing heinous crimes like you would expect them too, such as killing one of their own horribly, or coming up with a plot to strike back at the Americans. They also do not explain what they actually use the sand from those mountains for and to what end. I know some things like the absence of Swastikas was probably due to the time the film was made in, but it seems lazy to not show the Nazis actually doing any evil things. Scenes of something like that would make the audience want to see Grant's and Bergman's characters succeed and root for them to end up together more than without them..
